Aeromexico Joins Flight Centre for 3rd Annual Charity Trip

This November, 16 Flight Centre Canada employees will take part in the company’s 3rd Annual Employee Charity Trip, teaming up with Aeromexico to raise funds and awareness for Project Somos in Guatemala.

The initiative, to help at-risk children and mothers in a rural, eco-sustainable community, will be made possible by Mexico’s national airline and members of the Flight Centre Travel Group, including representatives from Flight Centre Leisure, FCBT, Corporate Traveller, FCm Travel Solutions and Stage & Screen Travel Services brands. Each participant will be responsible for the cost of their trip as well as a minimum donation of $1,000, 100% of which will go to directly help Project Somos.

“Aeromexico is extremely proud to partner with Flight Centre to help bring their Canada team members together for such a unique experience.” – Michele Martinson, Regional Director of Sales, Canada for Aeromexico.

The Project Somos Children’s Village was founded in 2011 by Canadian couple Heather Knox and Greg Kemp as an orphan prevention program, supporting single and widowed mothers in danger of losing their kids to poverty. There are currently almost 6,000 children in orphanages throughout Guatemala, many of them there because their mothers lack the education, skills and employment to sufficiently provide for them.

The ultimate goal is to give mothers the support and skills they need to live independently with their children in their own communities, moving their families towards a better future. The Flight Centre team will support the Project Somos staff by assisting in the completion of ongoing construction projects like the medical clinic, the fourth family home and a new neighbourhood house.

“We are grateful for the ongoing, generous support of Flight Centre Canada to enable Project Somos to move forward and provide a safe, healthy and happy community for at-risk mothers to raise their children and give them an opportunity to unlock their potential.” – Greg Kemp, co-founder and Project Manager, Project Somos

Last year’s charity trip saw Flight Centre Canada team up with Intrepid Travel and Cathay Pacific to raise funds and support for Friends of the Asian Elephant, an organization protecting and rehabilitating mistreated Asian elephants in Northern Thailand. The year before that, Flight Centre agents helped raise more than $50,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation during a challenging Iceland trek.

This year’s charity trip promises to be just as engaging and rewarding, both for those helped and for those volunteering their time and money to this great cause.
